Activity/gallery room with a kitchen/servery, exercise facility, entertainment centre and meeting space condo description
Builder's Description: Specializing in building electric locomotives, Canada Foundry Co. Ltd. called the warehouse at Lansdowne home since the early 1900’s. They had a very rich history supplying locomotives for many railways across Canada from Shawinigan Falls Terminal Railway, London & Port Stanley Railway to the Canadian Northern’s Mount Royal in Montreal. They built numerous styles of locomotives from box cars to freight cars. Instrumental in modernizing commuter services, they combined an electric locomotive with a coach into a single car. Here, we honour the rich history of Canada Foundry Co. Ltd. and the Great Canadian Railway that helped join Canada from sea to sea. Living Atrium at the heart of the Foundry Lofts is the most remarkable interior transformation of its kind. 16,000 sq.ft. of space dedicated to building a community. Once you enter the Foundry Lofts and travel through the designer lobby, you will be greeted by an interior green oasis filled with trees, park benches and cobblestone-like walkways. And within this lush green space, two interior amenity buildings coexist. Offering recreation/gallery space with a full kitchen and servery for displaying your works of art, exercise facilities to stay healthy and keep on track, entertainment centre to kick back and enjoy good times with friends and a meeting space to get focussed and stimulate your mind. Everything is within reach... right outside your front door. Unit Features: > original exposed brick walls where applicable > large warehouse-style windows as per plan City of Toronto - 2009 Toronto Urban Design Awards Submission: “Foundry Loft” is a 100 year old building and is part of a 6.5 Ha factory complex. The unusual industrial forms are been favorably regarded in the neighbourhood, thus the retention of all exterior components of the building chosen instead of demolition. The residential units were designed to face both the exterior and the resultant large interior open space with vast amounts of glass. The exterior has, in effect, been brought into the centre court acting as a large indoor public open space. The value of this project is the conversion of use, environmental remediation, the conversion into a spaces to brightly lit common indoor amenity space where car approach and storage is hidden from view. Streetscapes have been kept unchanged and all mature trees along Lansdowne Avenue have been kept. In the News: Condo Critic: History gets a make-over (Toronto Star. May 21, 2010)
