Hazelton Hotel and Residences Design

This euro-style 5 star boutique hotel (and residences) with street-related shops, a fine restaurant, bar and stylish sidewalk café, serves to rejuvenate, revitalize, and provide economic stimulus to the Yorkville area while the residential component enhances street life and safety through 24 hour “eyes on the street”.

Whereas most hotels have sealed glazing, the Hazelton has a distinctive European flair, and the impulse of guests upon arrival is invariably to open the French doors and enjoy the Yorkville scene below.

Architecturally, the 4-storey hotel (and residences) is articulated with a layered brick and stone podium, designed to reinforce the 3-storey scale of Yorkville with street-related activity and sidewalk cafés on brick-paved, widened sidewalks, with matched street trees provided on Yorkville and on Hazelton. The projecting three storey brick retail bays and vertical windows reflect a human scale and subtly recall the materials and classical proportions of the Victorian Heritage of the Yorkville area, while the stepped residential component is well set back from the podium and is clad in Ontario limestone, resulting in an unobtrusive, informal cascade of light and glass, with minimal impact and shadowing on the pedestrian realm.

The building integrates well into the street and The Hazelton’s canopied entrance terminates the vista from the laneway leading from Renaissance Court to the south.
